Seeing in the dark
Some years ago, Ross Kilby, Director of AeroGlow, realised the potential applications of photoluminescent materials within the aviation industry. He subsequently developed a range of products which are now being used by the Ministry of Defence.
Photoluminescent knee boards
- for use by pilots during night-time flights, the boards (approx. 4 ½ “ x 6 “) slot neatly into their knee pockets, providing enough light for them to make notes
- easily charged using sunlight or UV lamp
- NVG-compatible
Photoluminescent panels for fast jets
- positioned on the strategic points of the jet (fuselage, tail and wing tips) to aid flying in formation in darkness without the use of normal lights
- NVG-compatible
- ideal training aid for introducing new pilots to formation night flying
- vinyl strips (approx 3 “ x 12 “), self-adhesive, edge sealed
- versatile, easy to apply and remove (non-reusable)
- cost effective: can be custom-sized for any aircraft
- sold as kits of 6 pieces, typically enough for one aircraft
While these products are currently in use with military aircraft, they also have applications in the civil aviation industry.
