Throughout his professional career, Ross Kilby, Director of AeroGlow, has focused on safety. As a paramedic, advanced driving instructor and holder of a pilot’s licence for light aircraft, he is only too aware of the dangers inherent on the roads and in the air when visibility is poor.

AeroGlow came into being through a love of flying coupled with natural curiosity and inventiveness: a few years ago Ross was given some photoluminescent tape which he realised could have various applications in the aviation industry.

A phone call to the UK Ministry of Defence led to the development of small luminescent sheets for use on pilots’ knee boards and, following extensive trials over two years, luminescent panels for fast jets on night flights.

Ross also works as a consultant for Säkerhetspartner Norden AB, a Swedish company specialising in Emergency Planning Solutions and together with QinetiQ they recently produced a Water Activated Emergency Lighting System (WAELS) for the Merlin Mk3 helicopter.
